I got an unexpected email from our CSA farmers (Groundwork Organics) this afternoon. We received our last box of the year on Wednesday so I was a little surprised to hear from them already. They let us know that they would be setting up a mini-stand at Hideaway Bakery on Saturday for a few hours (10am-2pm) and would likely be setting up every Saturday if it goes well. They also mentioned they are trying to create a market with a few other farmers that runs every other week. This is great news for Eugene because the local food options get pretty slim in the winter (especially if cutworms devour your entire winter garden).
Another quick note is that the City Club meeting today featured a talk on Food Security by Dan Armstrong. Dan Armstrong is the editor of Mud City Press which publishes books and essays about sustainability and the environment . If you didn’t attend the talk, you can listen to the re-broadcast on Monday at 6:30pm on KLCC. According to several people that attended, the presentation was well received and prompted some good questions and discussion. I will hopefully be tuning in on Monday evening. I also found a note on the City Club website that there will be a free roundtable discussion at Davis’ Restaurant on Tues, Dec 9 from 5:30pm-6:30pm.
